The Dalai Lama is urging the World to act on the climate crisis.
The Tibetan Buddhist, Nobel peace prize recipient, and spiritual leader has co-written a book with German environmental journalist Franz Alt. In his book entitled Our Only Home: A Climate Appeal to the World, he urges world leaders and humanity, in general, to work in unity to stop global warming.
One of the most critical pieces of information he points out is the recent discovery that there’s more water on the moon than we thought, but still, the idea of our species surviving on the moon would be impossible. Therefore, we need to take care of our planet.
In his book, the Dalai Lama claims that “Buddha would be green” and calls on political leaders to fight against climate change ignorance and take a stand for an environmentally-friendly world. He encourages younger generations to assert their right for their future and the future of our planet
An advocate for environmental conservation for many decades, His Holiness sends an inspiring appeal to the World.
“Saving the planet is our common duty. Each passing day, climate change causes Pacific islands to disappear into the sea, accelerating the extinction of species at alarming proportions and aggravating a water shortage that has affected the entire European continent. Climate change can no longer be overlooked or denied because it threatens our existence on Earth”.
German environmental journalist Franz Alt writes in the book:
“In my conversation with the Dalai Lama before the pandemic, it was against the background of such ecological and spiritual concerns that he emphasized that we must re-examine what we are responsible for emphasized and what will pass on to coming generations.
In a time of the pandemic, global warming, extinction of species, and increasing water emergency, the values of international cooperation and ‘universal responsibility’ for which the Dalai Lama calls ever more urgently are particularly important.
In this book, as never before, he urges politicians to act decisively after more than 20 inconclusive international climate conferences since the stakes are nothing less than the survival of our planet and the sanctity of life. Already, there are regions on Earth that are scarcely reminiscent of our good old World.
Technology alone will not save us. Only if we combine technology with ethical responsibility can we – perhaps! – still prevent the worst effects of global warming.
Yesterday, many parts of our beautiful blue planet were still natural paradises. Today, Earth is already withered in many places. By tomorrow, many regions will be uninhabitable if we just carry on as before. But there are always alternatives. All the problems created by people can also be solved by people”.
